Victorian Ash - Our Primary Choice of Hardwood

In the search for the perfect timber for your custom-made piece of furniture, the choices can be bewildering. Finding a timber that combines durability with elegance can be a challenge.
Too often, furniture lack the character and uniqueness they deserve. Imagine investing in a material that merely fulfils its function, but doesn't add to the character of your space. It's a disheartening compromise. Vice versa, elegant choices of material are not always durable.
The primary choice for those who refuse to make compromises is without a question Victorian Ash timber. This hardwood is renowned for its durability and timeless beauty. In this blog post we tell you why we prefer to build your custom furniture with Victorian Ash.

Appearance

Victorian Ash timber is recognised for its predominantly straight grain, occasionally revealing fiddleback markings and distinctive gum veins. Its texture is notably coarse, and the heartwood spans a spectrum from pale pink to yellowish brown. Interestingly, the heartwood often closely aligns in colour with the softwood, creating a seamless and harmonious visual appeal in applications.

Durability

Victorian Ash exhibits good durability with a Janka rating around 4.5 kN (moderate hardness). The Janka hardness test is a widely used method to measure the hardness of a wood species, assessing its ability to withstand wear and denting. The results provide valuable insights into a wood's resistance to impact and wear, crucial information for selecting the right timber for various applications, from flooring to furniture.

Ideal for indoor flooring and outdoor decking, this timber boasts a lifespan of 7 to 15 years in above-ground applications. Its robust qualities make it a reliable choice for our bespoke furniture.
