Custom made furniture - Frequently asked questions

Are you considering custom made furniture for your home? In this blog post we provide answers to some common queries.

Why choose custom made furniture over ready-made options?

Custom dining room table

Custom made furniture allows you to tailor the design, size, materials, and finishes to perfectly suit your preferences and space. You can create unique pieces that reflect your personal style and needs. Every single one of our designs is crafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring a level of quality that is unmatched by mass-produced items.

How long does it take to build a custom made piece?

The production time for custom furniture varies depending on factors such as complexity, design, and our workload. At Home Made Home the waiting period can up to eight weeks from the time the order is being placed. Some items such as dining tables may only take five days to be built.

Is custom made furniture more expensive than ready-made furniture?

Custom made furniture may come with a higher price tag compared to mass-produced options due to the personalised design and craftsmanship involved. However, the investment often pays off in terms of quality, durability, and uniqueness. Our pieces are built to stand the test of time, not just aesthetically but also in terms of their structural integrity.

Can I see a sample or prototype before ordering custom furniture?

Home Made Home workshop

We exclusively craft furniture on a made-to-order basis. While we don't operate a showroom, we highly encourage visiting our workshop to explore the timber and finishes available. Often, there are finished products awaiting delivery, allowing customers to inspect the quality and craftsmanship. Additionally, we invite our customers to browse through our social media platforms for further inspiration and insight into our bespoke creations.

How can I ensure that the custom furniture will fit perfectly in my space?

Custom made shelve

Providing accurate measurements and detailed specifications of your space is crucial when ordering custom furniture. If the order entails complexities, like fitting into a niche or requiring specific measurements between walls or ceilings, we offer personalised home visits to ensure precise measurements are taken at the customer's location.

What materials can be used for custom made furniture?

Custom furniture can be crafted from a wide range of materials. The choice of materials depends on factors such as style, functionality, and budget. We built our furniture primarily from Victorian Ash, a durable hardwood. At times we also offer Tasmanian Oak, but it may not always be available. To ensure affordability without compromising on quality, we employ materials like particle boards for the structural components, which remain concealed in the final product, and other laminated materials that can be used either as finishing panels and structural components.

Can I customise the design of my furniture piece?

3D sketch of hallway table

Yes, you can choose the style, shape and colour of your custom piece. We will work closely with you to create a piece that reflects your vision. We use specialised 3D software to bring your design to life. With the click of a button, you can turn your design around and zoom in and out. We'll change and adjust it until it's exactly what you want. Read more about the process in our blog post “From 3D sketch to the final piece of furniture“.

What sizes do you offer?

We offer rectangular tables ranging from 800 mm to 4000 mm in length and round tables ranging from 960 mm to 1600 mm in diameter. If you’re after a different product, simply provide the size you're interested in, and we'll gladly provide you with a quote.

Do you offer warranties or guarantees?

We provide a 12-month warranty on all our products. Our furniture is crafted exclusively for indoor use. However, if any of our products are utilised in outdoor settings, please note that we do not offer a warranty against moisture damage.
